Weekend Sports Roundup: Parkland, Beca, Salisbury advance in D-11 team tennis

Three Lehigh Valley Press area teams advanced in the district team tennis tournament, and a few others competed in soccer and field hockey this weekend. For more about your local teams see this week’s issues of the Press.

GIRLS TENNIS

District 11 Team Tournament

Northampton-Parkland

The Trojans beat the Konkrete Kids 3-2 in a District 11 Class 3A tournament match.

The No. 3 seed Trojans got wins from Anna Li (No. 3 singles) and doubles team of Joanna Wu and Jess Marks (No. 1), and Ally Grob and Ally Brunell (No. 2).

Northampton wins came from Emma Angle (No. 1 singles) and Mary Angle (No. 2 singles).

Bangor-Bethlehem Catholic

The Golden Hawks swept Bangor 5-0.

Bethlehem Catholic singles wins came from Brenna Magliochetti, Molly Ehrig and Brooke Adams. Doubles wins went to the teams of Gabby Duffy and Maureen Mazza, as well as Allie Palmisano and Tess Shuler.

The top-seeded Golden Hawks host Salisbury Tuesday in a quarterfinal match at 3 p.m.

Southern Lehigh-Freedom

The No. 4 seed Patriots beat No. 5 seed Southern Lehigh 3-2.

Emmaus-Easton

Top-seeded Easton beat No. 8 seed Emmaus 5-0.

Salisbury-Blue Mountain

The Falcons got singles wins from Leandra Roekler, Claudia Crouthamel and Lil Crouthamel en route to a 4-1 District 11 Class 2A tournament win over Blue Mountain.

The doubles team of Anna Bishop and Vivian Rogers also earned a win for the No. 5 seed Falcons. They’ll meet top-seeded Bethlehem Catholic in Tuesday’s semifinals.

BOYS SOCCER

Lehigh Valley Christian-Catasauqua

The Rough Riders beat Lehigh Valley Christian 3-1.

Jon Dweck scored a pair of goals for Caty, while teammate Cam Ritter had one. Westly Brown assisted on all three goals

Luke Cryer and Samuel Safadi combined for six saves in the Rough Rider goal cage.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bangor-Liberty

The Hurricanes beat the Slaters 3-1.

Merve Okumus scored all three goals for Liberty, with the team’s only assist going to Kathryn Wescoe.

Kylee Will scored Bangor’s goal.

Hurricane goalie Jessica Becker made nine saves.

FIELD HOCKEY

Perkiomen Valley-Liberty

The Hurricanes’ Rayne Wright and Anissa Abbound scored their team’s goals, while McKenna Burkhardt had an assist.

Martina Gabby scored Perk Valley’s only goal.

Northern Lehigh-Northwestern

The Tigers and Bulldogs tied 0-0.

Northern Lehigh put 10 shots on goal and eight penalty corners, while the Tigers had five shots and seven corners.

Northern Lehigh goal keeper Annie McIntyre stopped all five shots, the Tigers’ Taylor Page stopped 10 Bulldog shots.
