LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Homecoming events planned

It’s that time of year at Emmaus High School – Homecoming.

It all starts with the annual powder puff football game in the stadium 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 5 where female football teams compete and are coached by the EHS football team. The rain date is Oct. 6.

The annual school spirit week at the high school is Oct. 3 to 7 where students are encouraged to wear certain items for each theme and participate throughout the week. New this year for spirit week at EHS: if a student gets picked in homeroom for best representation of that day he or she will get a ticket which will be placed in a bucket during their lunch period for a raffle including prizes like gift cards for Chick-fil-A and Dunkin’ Donuts. The themes for Spirit Week 2016 are: Oct. 3: America Day – students should wear favorite America-themed clothing; Oct. 4: Tie Dye Day – students should wear anything tie dye; Oct. 5: College/Sports Jersey Day – wear your favorite sports jersey; Oct. 6: Pink Out Day – support breast cancer by wearing as much pink as possible; Oct. 7: School Spirit Day – wear green and gold.

The Homecoming pep rally will be Oct. 7 at the end of the school day. The powder puff teams and fall sports will be recognized, the dance team and school band will perform and the students will be able to participate in games and activities. A tailgate will be held in the senior lot 4 to 6 p.m. after the pep rally to prepare for the homecoming game against Nazareth. Many of the clubs are participating in this tailgate event. The tailgate is open to students in all grades, faculty, staff, parents and the community.

The Homecoming court will be recognized at halftime.

The Homecoming dance will be 7 p.m. Oct. 8 in the cafeteria at EHS. The theme is still being decided by the student government association. Music will be provided by Wesley Works with refreshments offered and pictures taken. Tickets are being sold this week.

There will be no school for students Oct. 10, 11 and 12.

The PSAT test will be administered at EHS 8 a.m. Oct. 15.

“Not Just Broadway Night” will be held in the EHS auditorium 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 20.

The senior class is selling Yankee candles. The sale is Oct. 8 through 22. Candles will be delivered in time for holiday gifts. The goal is to raise $10,000 for the senior ball.

The drama department at EHS will present Neil Simon’s “Brighton Beach Memoirs” for the fall production 7 p.m. Nov. 3, 4 and 5. This comedic play is the autobiographical account of Simon’s childhood growing up in Brooklyn, N.Y. during the 1930s. Tickets can be purchased in the EHS main office or at the door. Tickets can also be reserved online at www.eastpennsd.org/ehs. Online ticket reservations begin Oct. 17 and ticket sales in the main office lobby during lunch periods will begin Oct. 24.
