BREAKING NEWS Community: Clowns, Jesters and Disorderly Conduct

Upper Macungie Township Police Chief Edgardo A. Colón has released the following statement:

A recent [national] trend involving disorderly behavior with people dressed like clowns screaming and yelling throughout neighborhoods has been reported in today’s Morning Call. Their conduct involves dressing like Clowns or Jesters and participating in menacing public behavior.

It has been brought to the attention of the Upper Macungie Township Police Department (UMTPD) that a public advisory was posted on social media advising that the UMTPD along with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) sent a community message advising that residents lock and close all windows and doors due to a “Clown” wandering around the area. This did NOT occur. The UMTPD exclusively uses either Nixle or FaceBook (or both) to provide critical public information.

There have been NO reported sightings of this type of behavior or cause for alarm in Upper Macungie Township or Lower Macungie Township which is in the jurisdiction of the PSP Fogelsville station. As with all such behavior, residents are encouraged to call the UMTPD or PSP in the event you observe such activity. Despite the Halloween holiday approaching, the UMTPD and PSP have little tolerance for these types of incidents that cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm.

Lastly, for those posting advisory messages that directly name the UMTPD or the PSP, please call to authenticate any information before information is posted publicly.
