WCSD believes that daily attendance in school is an extremely important factor in your child’s educational success. The Pennsylvania Department of Education is monitoring attendance records in all state school districts.

Parents should plan vacation and travel time over the holidays or during periods when classes are not in session. Doctors’ appointments should be planned after the school day.

If your child is absent, a written note, giving a specific reason and containing a parent’s signature, is required within three days. Failure to do so will create an illegal absence. After three illegal absences, parents will receive a summons from the magisterial district judge.

The elementary schools continue to participate in General Mills’ Box Tops for Education collection program. The products from this company have a special box top marked Big G Box Tops for Education. Each box top is redeemed by the school for a cash reward, which is used for students’ activities. Each school has its own goal.

***

If your child is absent from school three or more days, parents are encouraged to request that homework is gathered for them. Parents must call the school to request homework, which must then be picked up in the main office before 4 p.m.
