District news: Meet the teacher night at Gockley tonight, Sept. 22

Meet the teacher night at Gockley Elementary School is scheduled for 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight, Sept. 22. Parents and guardians are invited to come and visit their child’s school to meet their teachers. Children should not accompany their parents.

Each classroom will begin promptly 6:40 p.m. with a presentation to parents about the classroom, curriculum and activities. After you visit your child’s classroom for the 20-minute presentation, you may take a tour of the building.

Be sure to visit the library, art room, guidance office, school office, health room, music room, gymnasium and cafeteria. Parents can join the PTO in the cafeteria.

There also will be a Scouting table. PTO school spirit items will be for sale in the cafeteria. Don’t forget to stop by the book fair that evening, too.

Also in the cafeteria, there will be someone to help you with your child’s lunch accounts.

The middle school’s meet the teacher night is set for 6:30-8:30 p.m. Sept. 29. Plan to attend to meet your child’s teacher and have the opportunity to tour the school.

Be sure to stop by the library, art, computer and music rooms.

There will be a book fair during this time, too.

Gockley’s Bag Your Book - when your child brings home their library book - will be in a plastic library book bag. Please have your child use this bag every week to bring their library book back and forth to school.

This bag will serve to protect all library books. Thank you for your help!

The elementary schools continue to participate in General Mills’ Box Tops for Education collection program. The products from this company have a special Box Top marked Big G Boxtops for Education.

Each Box Top is redeemed for a cash reward, which is used for student activities. Each school has its own goal.

Just cut the Box Top, save in a baggy at home and periodically send all the Box Tops to school with your child.

Cafeteria updates to remember: Any child approved for free or reduced lunches will receive the daily meal and beverage. Additional items are not included. Parents may deposit funds in their child’s account if they would like their child to purchase additional items.

Breakfast also has begun. The cost is $1.60. The menu is posted on the lunch menu that students receive.
