William E. Snyder

William E. Snyder, 83, of Allentown, died Sept. 13, 2016, in the Lehigh Center, Macungie. He was the husband of Rosemarie R. (Rothdeutsch) Snyder. They were married 57 years in June. Born in Kuhnsville, he was the son of the late Irvin and Margaret (Dilts) Snyder.

“Bones” graduated from Allentown High School and was co-captain of the 1951 PA State Championship Basketball team. At Gettysburg College he continued his standout basketball career, establishing eight school records before graduating in 1955.

After college he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then became an educator, teaching science and physical education in the Allentown and East Penn school districts for over 30 years. During his teaching career he continued his love of basketball, coaching the 1986 Emmaus Green Hornets to their first District 11 Championship in school history.

Always generous and kind, his easygoing and humorous personality made everyone he met feel at ease. He enjoyed “The Honeymooners” trivia, sports of all kinds and playing cards with his dear friends.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Keith W. and his wife Deborah and William F. and his wife Marianne, all of Allentown; brothers, James, of Salisbury, N.C. and Irvin, of Allentown; grandchildren, Christine, Jillian and Gabrielle; great-granddaughter, Avaley. He was predeceased by a brother, Roland and sister, Margaret.
