Driver arrested after police chase

James Marciano, 20, of Whitehall, was arrested for allegedly leading police on a high speed chase Sept. 5 on I-78, Berks County.

According to State Police Troop L, Hamburg, Marciano was driving a 2008 Honda Accord west on I-78, in the area of Exit 30, Hamburg, when his speed was recorded on radar at 86 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

Police attempted a traffic stop as Marciano exited the interstate at Exit 29. Marciano allegedly failed to stop and then led police on a high speed pursuit south on Route 61, police say.

At one point, he crossed over into the northbound lane and continued south for approximately one mile.

Marciano then attempted to turn west onto Peach Street in Leesport Borough.

His car hit a curb and stopped on the property at 202 Centre Ave.

Marciano exited his vehicle and allegedly failed to comply with the trooper’s requests, police say.

He was then taken into police custody.

Marciano was held at Berks County night court pending completion of a criminal complaint.

Charges of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest or other law enforcement and numerous traffic violations will be filed, police say.
