Motorcyclists welcome students to Salisbury High School

Over 100 motorcyclists escorted Grand Marshal Sean Maehrer to Salisbury High School Aug. 30 and stayed to greet and welcome all high school students on the first official day of school.

Salisbury residents Brian and Nancy Smith, as well as the Lehigh Valley Community Benefit group coordinated the event. Administrators of SHS and members of the Salisbury Township Police Department prepared places for the motorcyclists to park to welcome the students to school.

The group met at 6:15 a.m. behind Ross at the South Mall and left for the high school around 6:45 a.m.

As exciting as it was for the students as they arrived to school, members of the Lehigh Valley Community Benefit group were equally touched.

“I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who were involved in the Salisbury High School escort with our buddy Sean Maehrer as the grand marshal. As any of you who were with [us] this morning, you all know how touched Sean and his family were by your outpouring of support for them. To Salisbury High School staff and students, thank you for having us today, thank you Brian and Nancy Smith for allowing us to be a part of this special event again this year and to all the 100 plus bikers that either took off work or went in late today. Thank you all for your continued support. Paying it forward; we are all in this together,” the group posted on Facebook.

Sean’s sister Kris Maehrer also posted on Facebook and thanked the group for supporting the students Aug. 30.

“Thank you soooooo much for everyone who came out for Sean today! I wish I could explain in words what that meant to him and our family. I still have tears from all of the support and overwhelming kindness. You are all amazing!! Sending all the love!!!!”
