Lower Milford Township hosts annual fall festival Sept. 24

Lower Milford Township will hold its annual fall festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 24, rain or shine, on the township building grounds, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road.

The fun will include food, local farm vendors, arts and crafts, a photography contest, hay rides, live music and a silent auction. An IronPigs mascot will visit the festival 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Parking is free.

The quarterly meeting of the Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will be held 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Upper Milford Township building. After a short business meeting, Jeff Donat will give a PowerPoint presentation on “The History and Collectability of Postcards.” Donat is a member of the Lehigh Valley Postcard Club.

The Upper Milford Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Upper Milford Township building. Shelly DePaul, who serves as chief on the Council of the Lenape Nation, will talk about Lenape history beyond the textbook, including the Lenape remaining in Pennsylvania. All are welcome.

St. Peter’s Union Church will hold its community yard sale and pig roast 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at the church, 7863 St. Peter’s Road, Macungie. Light lunch items will include hot dogs, barbecue, soups and baked goods.

The pig roast, which has a cost, will be served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and includes roast pork, baked potato, corn on the cob and pepper cabbage. Ticket pre-order is suggested, but not required. Call Ron at 610-845-2525 to order tickets. All are welcome.

Upper Milford Township has been included in an area that has been quarantined to help prevent the spread of a recently discovered invasive pest, the Spotted Lanternfly. If you observe one of these insects (pictures of it are on the township website) you should try to kill it by swatting or crushing it or dropping it into a cup of rubbing alcohol. You can also contact the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture by emailingBadbug@pa.gov or call the Invasive Species Hotline at 866-253-7189.

Upper Milford Western District Fire Company usually serves breakfast the first Sunday of every month, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All you care to eat. There are senior, adult and children’s prices. The Upper Milford Fire Company’s ladiesauxiliary meets the first Monday of the month, 7 p.m. New members are always welcome.

Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.

Upper Milford supervisors will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 15.

The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m., usually the fourth Monday of the month, alternating between Emmaus and Upper Milford. The council will meet Sept. 26 in Upper Milford.

The Upper Milford Open Space Committee meets 7:30 p.m. Sept. 14. The Upper Milford Planning Commission meets 7:30 p.m. the Monday prior to the first Thursday of every month unless that is a holiday. The recreation commission meets 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

Lower Milford Township board of supervisors regular meetings now are held 7:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the township building. The next meeting is Sept. 21.

Following is the schedule of other Lower Milford meetings in September. All meetings are 7:30 p.m. in the township building unless otherwise noted: historical commission, Sept. 13; recreation and open space committee, Sept. 14; zoning hearing board, Sept. 22.
