The 164th Great Allentown Fair begins Aug. 30

The Great Allentown Fair, Aug. 30 - Sept. 5, celebrates its 164th year providing a fun and educational experience for all ages. The Fair’s motto is “Don’t leave summer without it.”

The Lehigh County Agricultural Society is the nonprofit owner and operator of The Allentown Fairgrounds, 302 N. 17th St., bounded by 17th, Liberty and Chew streets, Allentown, where The Great Allentown Fair is held.

The Fair is the fulfillment of the Society’s mission, conceived in 1852, as stated in its bylaws: “The object of the Society is and shall remain the improvement and advancement of Agriculture, Horticulture, Livestock, Domestic and Mechanical Arts and the entertainment of its membership and patrons.”

The Fair, dedicated to supporting the achievements of farmers, gardeners and homemakers, enables children to learn where their food comes from while spending an exciting day riding rides, playing games and seeing shows. The young and young at heart will find international cuisine, concerts, thrill shows, and the latest in gizmos and gadgets.

Powers Great American Midways is back for the 2016 Fair with rides, games and concessions.

The Fair’s traditional closer, the J & J Demolition Derby, will crown a “Beast of the East” champion Labor Day Monday, with the action getting underway at 5 p.m. Sept. 5.

“Preview Night” is Aug. 30. Admission is “A Buck and a Can,” with a food item donation to the Fair for Second Harvest Food Bank. There are also “Dollapalooza” on rides and select games and food items.

“Weekdays Under The Wire” offers free admission noon - 2 p.m. Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 and 2.

Enter Tunnel Gate 7 along Liberty Street for infield parking. Guaranteed parking is available via the Fair web site.

Fair hours are: 4 - 11 p.m. Aug. 30; noon - 11 p.m. Aug. 31 - Sept. 4, and noon - 11 p.m. Sept. 5.
