Two alarm fire damages home in Lower Macungie Township

Firefighters from Lower Macungie Township and Alburtis fire departments respond to a reported dwelling fire around 8:45 p.m. Aug. 13 at 3115 Elizabeth Lane in Lower Macungie.

Lower Macungie Fire Department Assistant Chief Jon Kays arrived on the scene within minutes of the initial dispatch and reported smoke coming from the home. He instructed the first arriving units to advance hand lines to the interior of the structure.

Crews reported fire on the lower and first floors of the home in the area of the chimney and were able to stop the fire from spreading to other sections of the house.

Due to the location of the fire and the extreme heat and humidity, a second alarm was requested for additional manpower. Units from Macungie, Trexlertown, Woodlawn, Topton, Western Salisbury and Allentown city fire departments assisted at the call.

Several EMS units from Macungie ambulance provided medical evaluation and rehab for the fire crews.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for possible heat related injuries. No one was home at the time and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Lower Macungie fire marshal.
