Lynn Twp board welcomes legislative intern

Wes Schlauch, Penn State student and intern for state Rep. Gary Day, R-187th, attended the Lynn Township supervisors Aug. 11 meeting.

In his position as liaison for Day, Schlauch thanked the board for its service to residents and presented the township with two new flags - a U.S. flag and a Pennsylvania flag.

He provided some literature for the township office and told supervisors Day’s office is available in case if they need any assistance on any matter.

In other matters, the Peter and Janet Kahora subdivision was scrutinized by the board.

Requirements for landscaping and stormwater management were waived and the plan was approved conditional upon meeting the requirements of Keystone Engineering’s review letter.

The Susan Schall subdivision was on the agenda for another time extension.

Supervisors refused to grant any more time extensions on this plan.

Fire Chief Clark Mantz gave the Lynnport Fire Company report. Firefightes responded to five calls in July and four in August as of the board’s meeting date.

Testing was completed on the fire hoses and everything is satisfactory.

New Tripoli Fire Company had 102 calls for the year.

Fire Chief Peter Christ noted fire police will be attending all home games on the Northwestern High School football schedule and will also be busy at some of the area Halloween parades.

Applications for grant money will be sent to various agencies.

Several fire and emergency related courses are being offered and the members will be attending.

The road crew, under Roadmaster Bruce Raber, was busy oiling and chipping, cold patching, mowing and cutting brush.

They also helped Lowhill and Heidelberg townships with some of their projects.

A discussion was held on the decision to purchase a used truck from Upper Macungie Township.

The township’s 1991 Chevrolet will be offered for sale and will be replaced by a 2004 Mack truck.

State liquid fuels money will be used to purchase the truck.

The salt bid was announced.

Cargill Salt will be supplying the salt for the winter for $61.14 per ton delivered.

Eight municipalities banded together to advertise for bids with North Whitehall being the lead township in the matter.

Supervisor Steve Feinour asked what could be done about three burned houses in New Tripoli.

Solicitor Mark Fisher will look into the matter and will send letters to the property owners.
