Lehigh Valley residents graduate SELECT program

Three Lehigh Valley natives graduated from the University of South Florida/Morsani College of Medicine as part of the Scholary Excellence, Leadership Experiences and Collaborative Training Program of Medical Studies in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley Health Network.

Mary Kate Erdman MD of Orefield is a graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and Lafayette College.

Erdman is presently a five-year orthopedic surgical resident at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, Calif.

She was the recipient of the Clinical Surgery Award for the Class of 2016.

Erdman is the daughter of William and Mary Erdman of Orefield.

Michael Goodwin MD of Allentown, is a graduate of Parkland High School and Penn State University.

Goodwin, the son of Paul and Kimberlee Goodwin of Allentown, is in his first year of a four-year anesthesiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.

Kelli (Dunker) Harajda MD of Northampton, is a graduate of Northampton High School and Penn State University.

Harajda currently a three-year pediatric resident at LVHN.

She was also the recipient of the Pediatric Clinical Award for the Class of 2016.

Harajda is the daughter of Chris and Cheri Dunker of Northampton.

All graduated in April.

The SELECT Program is an innovative approach to medical school studies whereby the doctors spent the first two years in Tampa, Fla., at USF in a classroom and clinical setting.

The final two years were spent almost exclusively, in a clinical setting at each of the LVHN Hospitals as well as family and internal medicine practices.

This program’s success is attributed to the involvement of dedicated, local physicians who work as coaches, mentors and teachers for each of the four years of the student’s medical training.

This is the second class of SELECT graduates from this collaborative program between USF and LVHN.
