Good Shepherd has new principal

John Paul Crescenzo, newly named principal at Good Shepherd Catholic School, Northampton, brings with him a mix of experience and a fresh approach in his role to provide the elementary students a solid forward-looking curriculum and a strong Catholic environment.

Crescenzo, a youthful 35-year-old educator, was chosen by a school board committee because of his well-rounded background, both professional and personal.

He is the father of two boys, ages 4 and 7.

Growing up in New Jersey, Crescenzo earned a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall and a master’s degree from Kean University, in education and administration.

He has previously held the post of principal at St. Vincent DePaul Elementary School, Stirling, N.J.

He resides in Nazareth with his family.

“I am blessed, very excited,” Crescenzo said of his new role.

With an enrollment of 248 in grades 1 through 8, as well as encouraging numbers in preschool and kindergarten, Crescenzo said his task “is challenging and rewarding.”

He said Good Shepherd’s retiring principal, Irene Quigley, has set the bar high. He plans to continue the practice of the student body attending Mass on Friday mornings, a foundation for the school and its boys and girls.

“I love it,” Crescenzo said, unable to hold back his enthusiasm as he waits for the school bell to ring later this month as the 2016-17 school year begins.

Saying he approaches his role inspired by his Catholic faith, he hopes to expose students to the Catholic faith as well as to a diverse curriculum that offers academic and technology courses.

Crescenzo noted the school’s computer lab for kindergarten through eighth-grade students, along with laptops, ranks high.

“The summer drama club was special,” he said. “The play they just performed was exceptional, talented and remarkable.”

Coming up on Crescenzo’s calendar is meeting with parents in the days following the school’s opening in late August.
