Annual event Aug. 26 to 28

WHEELS OF TIME

The Wheels of Time Street Rod Association announces its 38th Annual Rod & Custom Jamboree at Macungie Memorial Park Aug. 26, 27 and 28. Proceeds benefit more than two dozen charitable organizations and scholarship programs.

Special features this year include a guest appearance by actor Henry Winkler “Fonzie” for all three days, a tribute to veterans with military display and veteran tent with an actual combat helicopter and other machinery and carnival rides and games.

The Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree includes over 1,500 street rods and custom cars, 1985 or older.

Car registration is also available at the show. Coveted Wheels of Time awards are given each year to 20 participants’ cars at the show. National Street Rod Association vehicle safety inspections are also conducted free of charge during the show.

The Miller-Keystone Blood Center will be on site Aug. 28 for donations.

Other show highlights include valve cover racing, the famous car teeter totter, bingo, an auction to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Women’s World and entertainment for the kids. The flea market and crafts area has 250 vendors, plus a car corral with dozens of cars for sale.

Carnival rides and games are being provided by S & S amusements. Ride tickets will be available in the carnival area in the northwest corner of the park.

The annual Friday night cruise through Emmaus will include the first 200 show cars to register Aug. 26 at the show. This has been a long-time favorite of the community.

The route for this year is the same as last year.

At 6:30 p.m., cars will leave the Allen Organ lot and head south on Route 100, turn left on Buckeye Road, turn left on Route 29 (Chestnut Street), go through Emmaus and turn left on Harrison, pass Emmaus High School, turn right on Cedar Crest Boulevard, turn left on Lower Macungie Road, turn left on Willow Lane, get back to Route 100 and turn left to Macungie Park.

Live bands will play at the Wheels of Time Rod & Custom Jamboree. “Main Street Cruisers” will entertain 7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 26. The Allentown Hobo Marching Band will entertain the crowd in the afternoon Aug. 27. “Flamin Dick and the Hot Rods” will entertain 7 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27.

The Ladies Auxiliary also has many events planned. On Aug. 26, visitors can particpate in a cake walk, bingo and gift basket raffle. A basket auction, bingo, crafts and guessing games are planned for Aug. 27 and 28. An auction of merchandise to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association will occur 2:30 p.m. Aug. 27. This popular event always brings unique items for sale and all proceeds go to MDA. Buckeye Pipeline donated to this event.

The show opens each day 7 a.m. There is an admission fee at the gate (under 16 free). Bring a non-perishable food item and get $1 off the admission price. Thousands of pounds of food are donated each year to a local food bank, thanks to visitor donations.

Event details, schedules and site maps will be available at www.wheelsoftime.org. and Facebook.
