Adams heads into final college season at CU

Several former Salisbury High School athletes will be competing on college athletic teams this fall.

Emily Hoats played a vital role in the DeSales women’s soccer season in 2015, one that will go down in the record books. The Bulldogs won their first MAC Freedom championship and qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament last year, and Hoats’ play in goal was a key part in guiding DeSales to a 14-6 record (6-1 in conference). She played in 16 of those games, logging over 1,200 minutes in goal and allowing less than a goal per game (.94). She was responsible for 11 of the Bulldogs’ wins in net, pitched five shutouts, and posted 46 saves with a 78% save rate.

Mackenzi Groff’s career at Ursinus College got off to a solid start. Groff, now preparing for her second season on the women’s soccer team, scored four goals in the team’s first five games last year. She finished the season with five goals and four assists.

College cross country season No. 2 is just weeks away for former Salisbury twins Kyle and Kelly Gonoude. Kyle enters his sophomore season at DeSales after he placed 26th at last year’s MAC Championships in the 8K in 27:45.19, followed by a 48th-place mark at the NCAA Division III Mid-East Regionals shortly later with a time that was over a minute faster. Kelly won’t be that far away when her second cross country season gets underway at Moravian College. She ran a season-best time of 24.26.4 in the 6,000-meter run last year and looks to take another step forward in 2016.

Sean Adams returns to the pitch for his final season at Catholic University. An incoming senior midfielder/forward, Adams appeared in 17 games last year with three starts. He tallied five shots for the Cardinals.

Redshirt sophomore Troy Parton returns to the Kutztown University football team as a wide receiver. He’ll look to make an impact on the field after not seeing action in his first two campaigns.

Three football players from last year’s Salisbury team are weeks away from officially starting their collegiate careers. Quarterback Tevon Weber (East Stroudsburg University), wide receiver/kicker Mason Donaldson (University of Connecticut), and tight end Kyle Hartzell are about to embark on their collegiate playing days.
