Northampton Area High School’s Distributive Education Clubs of America Club (DECA), one of the school’s largest member organizations, was given permission by borough council June 16 to use both pavilions at Municipal Park Sept. 24 for a charity fundraiser.
Olivia Daniels and Tyler Bennett, representing DECA, went before council with the request, asking the two pavilions be reserved for the event from noon to 10 p.m. There will be adult chaperones, the youths said in response to a question from Councilwoman Judy Kutzler.
Rain date is Oct. 1.
Funds from donations derived from the event will go to Lehigh Valley Phantoms’ Building Hope for Kids charity project.
Along with entertainment, games and food, the community project is billed as a movie night. Borough Manager Leroy Brobst said DECA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
The Borough of North Catasauqua was given permission to use the borough’s portable band shell Oct. 9 for its annual Autumnfest. Council waived the rental fee, but a $100 delivery and setup fee will be applied.
Council approved a resident’s request for a handicapped parking space at 834 Lincoln Ave. Police Chief Ron Morey reviewed the application and recommended its approval.
Unanimous approval was given by borough lawmakers to an earlier suggestion to rename East 14th Street, between Laubach and Washington Avenues, Gene Zarayko Drive.
“The passage of this ordinance will honor the service of Gene Zarayko for the 30 years of service as borough manager,” Brobst said.
Zarayko’s retirement was effective June 1.
Councilman Robert Coleman, administration and finance chairman, said CPower submitted a $819 check to the borough for the borough’s sewer plant generator being available in the event of a high-demand day.
