After 34 years of naval service, Commander Donald A. Sigley Jr. has retired.

A retirement ceremony was held Aug. 6 at the Emmaus VFW Post 7088.

Sigley is a native of Emmaus and the son of Donald and Marlene Sigley. He joined the Navy in October 1982 and completed air traffic control school.

Sigley’s first duty station was Tactical Air Control Squadron Twelve at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, Calif., where he deployed to the Pacific. His follow-on assignments included Naval Air Station, Brunswick, Maine, then NAS North Island, Calif. aboard the USS Kitty Hawk where he deployed to the Pacific and Persian Gulf during war and conflicts.

He was fully qualified at all duty stations and recieved numerous accolades. Sigley then transferred to Chief at Naval Air Technichal Training Center in Millington, Tenn. where he was initiated to Chief Petty Officer and served as the Carrier Air Traffic Control Center Course Supervisor, “A” School Company Commander and earned his Master Training Specialist designation.

Sigley transferred to NAS Jacksonville, Fla. where, in 1997, he was commissioned an Ensign under the Limited Officer Duty Program.

His assignments as a Naval Officer included Carrier Controlled Approach Officer onboard the USS Kitty Hawk, Air Traffic Control Facility Officer at NAS Keflavik, Iceland and AFCFO/Air Space Specialist Officer, Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Jacksonville, Fla. He next embarked to Naval Station Rota, Spain, NAS Oceana, Va. and Officer-in-Charge Air Traffic Control Schools, USN and USMC Operators and Maintainers, at NATTC Pensacola, Fla.

He has served the past four years on the CNO Staff, Director Air Warfare, as the ATC Requirements and Resource Officer and in his current position as director NAATSEA, Pentagon, Washington D.C.

CDR Sigley’s personal awards include the Meritous Service Medal, eight Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

He is married to Jennifer Joy Sigley and has four children: Jason, Travis, Lauren and Dylan.
