Free Musikfest wi-fi from PenTeleData, Service Electric
Service Electric Cable TV & Communications and PenTeleData are offering free, festival-wide wi-fi at Musikfest 2016.
Musikfest guests can access the wi-fi by logging into Service Electric and PenTeleData’s Musikfest Free WiFi network. Access to the service is available by providing name and email address.
Musikfest is the single, largest event that the two companies have partnered on to offer the free service.
The two companies have provided free wi-fi service at ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, since 2011, but this year marks the first time that the service is offered throughout the festival grounds thanks to major upgrades in wi-fi equipment and bandwidth.
“We’re excited to be part of this partnership with Musikfest to offer free community wi-fi to all festival-goers,” said Jeff Kelly, Director of Engineering for Service Electric Cable TV & Communications.“The network was built to handle the large crowds at an event such as this. We plan on keeping the wi-fi in place after Musikfest in this area so it will be available year-round.”
Maps of the free wi-fi coverage zones are available at: musikfest.org, and the Service Electric Booth at Festplatz.
Service Electric has been a partner of ArtsQuest, Musikfest and Christkindlmarkt Bethlehem since 1988. PenTeleData has been supporting the event for the past decade.
Service Electric Cable TV is the United States’ first cable TV company. The third-generation family-run business was started by John Walson in 1948 is and is one on the largest independently-owned cable companies in the nation.
Service Electric offers cable TV, Internet, phone and home security servicing to more than 225,000 customers in the Lehigh Valley, Wilkes-Barre and Western New Jersey.

PenTeleData began in 1994 with the idea of providing high-speed data and Internet connectivity in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. A partnership between local cable and telephone companies, including Service Electric Cable TV and Communications, Service Electric Broadband Cable, Service Electric Cablevision, Ironton Telephone, and Blue Ridge Communications allowed the first data and Internet service provider in the United States to offer High-Speed Broadband Internet over a standard cable television connection.
With more than 9,000 miles of fiber optic cabling, more than $300 million invested in fiber-optic infrastructure, and more than 60 nodes in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, the PenTeleData fiber optic network provides connectivity to the region’s schools, universities, hospitals, banks and retail businesses.
PenTeleData offers nearly 200 “Unleashed Wi-Fi Hot Spots” in 18 counties, and is a free benefit to partner broadband customers. Hot Spots provide wireless Internet access to any user with a Wi-Fi enabled laptop computer.
