Upper Mac board discusses I-78 access from Adams Road

Upper Macungie supervisors met recently for an information session for those interested in the proposed new access point to I-78 from Adams Road.

Township officials, stake holders in the study and approximately 25 residents attrended the meeting.

Will Anderson, representing Alfred Benesch and Co., made the presentation.

Benesch and Company was designated to perform the study.

Scott Pasterski, of Keystone Consulting Engineers, Wesosville, noted the point of access study was preliminary, to justify feasibility of the construction of this interchange.

The 18-month study will include much data, many meetings and will be coordinated with the local businesses.

The finished study must be reviewed and approved by the Federal Highway Administration and PennDOT.

Projected traffic flows were shown by the use of simulations.

Predicted flows in the future with and without a new interchange were given.

Several residents questioned the study.

Some called for zoning changes to reduce the area suitable for warehousing and other uses involving trucks.

The proposed eradication of the Kraft site and its potential uses were discussed.

No decisions were made at this meeting.
