Arcadis, a design and consultant based firm which checks natural and built assets, provided a report of the future of the regional wastewater systems of Lehigh County.
Wastewater systems must have enough space for air and the piping must be in good shape. When pipes allow rainwater in, this allows for unnecessary overload on the main system. This is what is involved in the Sewer Capacity Assurance and Rehab Program.
Over the course of time, sewers will be checked for proper functioning. There will also be additional reconfiguration of intersections and possible additional tanks and rehabilitation of pumping stations and pipes. Macungie and Alburtis will experience more of a burden as these communities have older systems.
