Flapjack fundraiser Aug. 13

The Salisbury High School girls soccer team is hosting a flapjack fundraiser breakfast 8 to 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at Applebee’s, Hamilton Boulevard in Trexlertown.

Tickets can be purchased in advance from any soccer player or at the door.

If you are ready to start school shopping, the elementary and middle schools have supply lists by grade level on their websites which can be very helpful. Many stores have already started their school sales, so as sad as it seems, it is not a bad idea to start early.

As my youngest son heads off to high school this year, I can honestly say I do not miss the days of elementary school and all the different supplies they needed. For high school, I send them out the door with binders, pencils and paper and they are good to go. But then again, with two in college, I also miss the days when the school supplied the textbooks. Cha-ching!

An operations committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road.

A school board meeting is scheduled 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 at the administration building.

The Carmike Promenade 16 summer kid series continues 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday. The movie “Penguins of Madagascar” will be shown Aug. 3 and 4, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip” will be on the screen Aug. 10 and 11. The last days for the program are Aug. 17 and 18. “The Croods” will be the featured movie.

The Devonshire drop-off center is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 6 and 16. The days of operation are the first and third Tuesday and Saturday of the month. Summer evening hours are now over.

As I write this on my birthday, I decided to list a quote from someone who shares my special day.

“There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all.” Jackie Kennedy
