Lenape Park courts to receive face-lift

The volleyball, tennis and basketball courts at Lenape Park will be repaired and resurfaced at a cost of $36,300 following approval by the Upper Milford Township Supervisors at the July 21 meeting. The contract also includes painting of lines on the court.

Resident Howard Bachman Jr. attended the workshop and meeting and asked to have the yearly bill waived for a street light at the corner of his property at the intersection of Tank Farm Road and Buckeye Road.

Bachman said he and his wife are on a fixed income. He said he never asked for the light and questioned why he is responsible for paying one-fourth of the bill.

The light was placed at the intersection after a recent accident. The $200 bill is split four ways and Bachman is billed $50 a year.

Supervisor Robert C. Sentner said he asked for the light to be placed at the intersection and he will make a telephone call to have the entire bill paid. If that does not happen, the supervisors voted to waive the bill for Bachman.

“Tear up the bill,” supervisor Chairman George D. DeVault said.

Resident Phil Casey asked about an upcoming snow plowing seminar in Newark, Del. which may be of interest to the township.

Township Manager Dan DeLong said the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission is offering a similar seminar at no charge to municipalities which will cover many topics including new regulations in 2022 to meter salt.

Supervisors approved the Fields at Indian Creek Phase 1 Improvements Agreement as well as a Stormwater Best Management Practices Operations & Maintenance Agreement for the Fields at Indian Creek.

Supervisors also approved the Upper Milford Youth Association’s request to extend soccer playing time on the fields at Jasper Park to 8 p.m. Following the recommendations of the recreation committee, UMYA can be on the fields until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday Oct. 1 through Nov. 30. UMYA is directed to rent portable lights, coaches will be responsible for the activities at the field and the gates will be locked following the practices. DeLong said the approval was needed because park regulations have the parks closing at dusk.

Sentor asked the supervisors to attend the 7 p.m Aug. 8 steering committee meeting as the group will begin working on fire grants.

Supervisor Daniel J. Mohr reported signs have been produced announcing the homecoming events scheduled for Aug. 21 in the township. Anyone wanting a sign for their property should contact Mohr.

Casey also shared his concerns with the board about the upcoming referendum with the largest tax increase residents have seen to preserve open space.

“That’s why it’s on the ballot for the citizens to decide,” DeVault said.
