Golf classic held July 16

Close to 80 golfers attended the 2016 Salisbury Falcon Football Golf Classic at Wedgewood Golf Course July 16 to support the football program. Golfers had the opportunity to win a hold-in-one grand prize of an $8,000 Caribbean cruise as well as additional prizes.

Salisbury High School varsity football coach Andy Cerco thanked all golfers for supporting the program.

“This annual event directly benefits the student athletes involved in our football program,” Cerco said. “Some of the direct benefits are with items such as practice shorts and sweatpants, a character and leadership development curriculum, an end-zone camera and video editing system to assist in player development, along with ensuring healthy meals for the players on game days. With your support, we can take Salisbury football to the highest level in the Colonial League and PIAA 3A football.”

In a letter to supporters, Cerco said the football program’s mission is “to develop young men of character and a winning tradition in the Colonial League and PIAA 3A football. Our football program is built upon the core values of hard work, respect, humility, class and a relentless pursuit of success. Each of these values is a tenet of any successful organization. Our players and coaches are focused on the process of developing young men of character.”

Cerco said success will be measured in 20 years when these young men develop into successful husbands, fathers and positive members of the community.

Following golf, awards were presented, raffle winners were announced and dinner was held at Wedgewood Grove.
