Emergency personnel respond to fatal crash

The Salisbury Township Police Department was dispatched to a call about a single vehicle accident in the 1700 block of Broadway in the early morning hours of July 14 with injuries and rescue.

In addition to the police, St. Luke’s EMS, the Eastern Salisbury Township Fire Department and Fountain Hill Fire Department also responded.

The accident, which took place at approximately 2:07 a.m., involved a vehicle smashing into a tree.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered the car’s two occupants were deceased.

St. Luke’s EMS also evaluated the victims and Lehigh County Coroner Scott M. Grim pronounced both victims dead at 3:11 a.m. and 3:12 a.m.

The two occupants have been identified as Jesus I. Rodriguez, 22, of Allentown, who was the driver of the vehicle and Julian N. Delacruz, 20, of Allentown.

Eastern Salisbury Fire Department Chief David Tomics said both Eastern Salisbury and Fountain Hill fire departments proceeded to extricate both victims from the car. Eastern Salisbury Fire Police shut down Broadway during the incident and placed detours on the roadways.

“We assisted the coronor’s office by placing the victims into the vehicles,” Tomcics.

Tomcics said the fire department also set up tarps around the perimeter to give privacy to the victims.

“I’m very proud of the way our firefighters and Fountain Hill firefighters handled this accident,” Tomcics said. “We were able to extricate the victims from the vehicle quickly due to the ongoing training the fire volunteers go through every Monday night.”

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
