The GFWC Pennsylvania Woman’s Club of Emmaus named Gillian Velarde, of Lower Macungie Township, Girl of the Month recently.

Velarde was recognized for her achievements in science.

Velarde, a 2016 graduate of Emmaus High School, was a member of National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society.

A competitive gymnast, Velarde practicedmore than four hours a day, five days a week. She also was involved in dance and singing.

“I will be attending New York University where I will be majoring in biology. I plan to continue on to graduate school where I will earn my doctorate of veterinary medicine. Afterward, I plan to practice veterinary medicine,” Velarde said She is the daughter Mark and Diane Velarde.
