State Police Troop M Fogelsville say a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer combo driven by a woman with the last name, Copeland, became disabled after it jackknifed 2:51 a.m. on July 9 along Route 309, south of Gun Club Road, Lynn Township.
According to police, the driver told police at 3:20 a.m. she was northbound on Route 309 driving approximately 45 mph when the trailer fishtailed due to wet conditions.
Copeland, police say, said the trailer slid out of control and jackknifed before becoming disabled.
She also said the tractor would not start, partially blocking all three lanes of travel.
She could not relate anything additional, police say.
Physical evidence at the scene consisted of skid marks leading up to the point the truck became disabled, police say.
Damage to the fuel tank and rear passenger side of the cab where it struck the landing gear portion of the trailer while jackknifed as well as debris from broken parts of lighting equipment from the cab.
The tractor-trailer was removed by Hauser’s Towing and taken to the parking lot of the Blue Mountain Summit Restaurant.
Police say a company mechanic from Karchner Trucking started the tractor and said it could be driven from the scene.
A traffic citation was filed with District Judge Rod Beck, Slatington, against Copeland for driving at an unsafe speed.
Trooper McCormick, Cpl. Adam and New Tripoli Fire Department assisted for traffic control.
