Fun, food and fireworks were a good combination for celebrating Independence Day at Longswamp Park July 2.
Entertainment was provided by Mike Hertzog and the Blue Mountain Gang.
The warm weather and park setting were perfect for this event as children on the playground were in full view of parents and guardians.
Music coming from the pavilion could be heard in the surrounding area.
Surrounding the ballpark, also close by, were more people who set their chairs around the ballpark in small groups so they could get a birds-eye view of the fireworks display synced to music, which was expected to start 9:30 p.m.
A Topton Fire Department truck and Topton Ambulance were parked near the upper part of the ball field standing by ready to respond to any unforeseen emergency.
As the darkness closed in, anticipation grew and the first boom and flash at the start of the show made everyone look up with delight, some letting out a shout of approval. The grand finale delighted the large crowd.
Coordinating the event was Cub Master Adrianna Baldassare and Assistant Den Leader Christopher Rickert, of Longswamp Cub Pack 575. Proceeds from this event benefited the Scouts.
