Harold A. Ziegler

Harold A. Ziegler, 91, of Whitehall, died June 26, 2016, in his home. He was the husband of Barbara A. (Rhoads) Ziegler for seven years and of the late Ada M. (Hottenstein) Ziegler.

Born in Leithsville, Lower Saucon Township, he was a son of the late Herbert J. and Anna (Brubaker) Ziegler.

He was a 1942 graduate of the former Hellertown High School.

He was an electrician’s mate 2/c in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the submarine U.S.S. Puffer.

He was a member of Iron Workers Union Local 420 and was employed at the former Allentown Roofing & Sheet Metal Company for 40 years before he retired in 1987.

He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Northampton, where he volunteered in the kitchen as part of the bakers group.

A 32 degree mason, he was a member of Greenleaf Lodge 561, Allentown; the Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown; and the Rajah Shrine, Reading.

He was a former captain of Whitehall Fire Company, Station 39.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, William H. and his wife Judith of Hellertown, Darleen F. and her husband Carl Kocher of Whitehall, Rose M. Borger of Northampton and Tammy L. and her husband Christopher Kita of Emmaus; four stepchildren, Brian R. Wolfe of New Tripoli, Douglas J. and his wife Valarie Wolfe of Huntsville, Ala., Scott M. and his wife Mary Wolfe of California, Md. and Kathy J. and her husband Jeff Burt of Orlando, Fla.; five siblings, Oliver J. Ziegler of Hellertown, Raymond and his wife Loretta Ziegler of Bethlehem, Herbert and his wife Deanna Ziegler of Macungie, Donald and his wife Carol Ziegler of Hellertown and Rena and her husband Emil Gecsek of Hellertown; a sister-in-law, Elda Shafer of Whitehall; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son-in-law, Thomas F. Borger.
