On June 23, Governor Tom Wolf signed Senate Bill 1077, a new piece of legislation, into law. The bill, which was introduced by Sen. Elder Vogel, R-47th, will eliminate a mailer costing school districts thousands of dollars each year.
The mandate, introduced as part of Act 9 of 2014, forced school districts to physically mail information to parents annually when the districts use recordings on buses to discipline students. Under the new law, the school districts get the option to provide such information on their websites and in student handbooks.
Vogel was appreciative that his legislation was approved.
“There simply is no need to require schools to send out a separate mailing each year for this one specific policy,” Vogel remarked.
“Eliminating that burdensome requirement when the information is readily available through other sources will save taxpayer dollars.”
