Lehigh Valley Active Life will receive $37,500 from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging to get elderly and isolated individuals involved in social activities.
“An outreach worker will meet with senior citizens who are isolated and help them get comfortable attending programs here,” explained Rick Daugherty, executive director of LVAL. “Then we hope to track health status and health care spending to see if being with others can benefit one’s health and lower health care costs.”
The program, which could potentially last until 2018, will begin in August. Its initial goal is to recruit 50 senior citizens.
