NASD names Mooney assistant principal at high school

A Northampton Area School District educator has been appointed assistant principal at Northampton Area High School.

By a vote of 7-0, Kimberly Mooney was appointed, effective July 1, at a salary of $78,000 with benefits. Mooney attended the June 13 board meeting, where she was welcomed by school directors.

Mooney, who taught physical education at Lehigh Elementary School and sixth-grade physical education for the 2015-16 school year at Northampton Area Middle School, has been interim assistant principal at the high school since the end of January.

Mooney received a B.S. in education with a concentration in physical education and health from East Stroudsburg University in 1998, a master’s degree in sports management from Millersville University in 2007 and an administrator’s certificate from The Pennsylvania State University in 2015.

She and her husband, Zachary, and their two daughters reside in Lower Nazareth Township.

Also appointed by a vote of 7-0 was Kayla Bringenberg, mathematics teacher, Northampton Area Middle School, effective Aug. 22, at a salary of $48,331 with benefits. Bringenberg attended the June 13 board meeting, where she was welcomed by school directors.

In other business at the June 13 meeting, school directors voted 7-0, with two members absent, to appoint the following teachers, effective Aug. 22:

• Jacqueline DiMartino, special education teacher, Northampton Area High School, $48,331 with benefits;

• Catherine Espinal, long-term substitute Spanish teacher, for 2016-17 school year, $47,720 with benefits;

• Andrea Vent, special education teacher, Lehigh Elementary School, $47,720 with benefits; and

• Nicole Strain, library science teacher, George Wolf and Borough Elementary Schools, $57,233 with benefits.

Also, by a 7-0 vote, the board approved:

• Re-appointment of Krista Ames, academic literacy coach, $83,196, funded by Keystones to Opportunity Grant, effective Aug. 22, for the 2016-17 school year;

• Brian Snyder, Tuesday-Saturday custodian, Northampton Area Middle School, effective June 14, at $18.40 per hour with benefits;

• Resignations of Valarie Marks, grade 5 teacher, Siegfried Elementary School, for retirement, effective June 9; Andrea Wasilko, senior class adviser and Student Council adviser, effective the end of the 2015-16 school year; and Scott Rehrig, school police officer, effective June 30;

• Kristin Chevez, paid childbearing-childrearing leave of absence, Aug. 22-Sept. 7; unpaid childrearing leave with insurance, Sept. 8-Dec. 5, and unpaid childrearing leave, Dec. 6 through on or about June 2, 2017 with no insurance;

• Stefani Fink, paid childbearing leave of absence, Aug. 22-Sept. 27; unpaid childrearing leave with insurance, Sept. 28-Nov. 1;

• Professional and support staff transfers for 2016-17 school year;

• Revised listing of student summer help, at $7.25 per hour, effective for summer 2016;

• Act 93 administrative compensation plan, July 1-June 30, 2020;

• Data conversion as of July 1 from SunGard-Performance Tracker to Sapphire K-12 at no cost to NASD;

• Three-year chiller service agreement, July 1-June 30, 2019, with Elliott-Lewis of Bath at $49,945;

• Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit student driver education program agreement;

• One-year subscription with Liminex Inc., aka Go Guardian, for content filtering and management software at $22,452.50;

• Lease agreement between First Student Inc., and Northampton Area School District, Aug. 16-July 15;

• 2016 Homestead and Farmstead real estate tax reduction amount at $111.65 with a 2016 Homestead and Farmstead real estate assessed value reduction at $2,179;

• Appointment of Dr. Michael Baird as Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 board member for a three-year term, July 1-June 30, 2019; and

• Donation of Keystone Press Awards, Niche Publication, first-place plaque received by Paul Willistein for Northampton Press special section about Northampton Area Middle School grand opening.
