Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, 321 E. Third St., Bethlehem, will hold a free salsa class 10 a.m.-noon June 23 as an introduction to its salsa workshop in the summer. The workshop is part of the school’s summer academy, a program of arts enrichment workshops open to the community.

There is a cost for the five-week course; participants who attend the free introduction will receive a special discount if they decide to register.

Those who attend the free introduction class will have the opportunity to join the salsa workshop in the summer, which will begin June 30 and run for five consecutive Thursdays. The class also will take place 10 a.m.-noon.

This class is designed to teach participants the Latin dance of salsa. The class will focus on a New York-style salsa, also known as Salsa on 2. Basic individual steps, called shines, and partner work will be taught. A partner is not necessary, as the group will rotate frequently during class.

No prior experience or dance training is required. This will be a great course for anyone who has never taken a salsa class or someone who wants to learn new dance moves.

Eric Bass, the instructor, is the owner of B Dance and Fitness. He has had more than 10 years of salsa training at Dancesport Studio in New York City. Dancesport is one of the largest dance studios in New York City and has world champion instructors. He has been teaching Latin dances for years and truly enjoys sharing his knowledge with adults and young adults.

For the past two years, he has been the lead instructor for Allentown School District’s middle school Latin dance program.
