Chalk the Walk in Emmaus July 9
Do you like to draw pictures with chalk on the sidewalk? Then the upcoming Chalk the Walk, sponsored by the Emmaus Arts Commission, is a fun activity for you.
This is the fourth year for this popular event, which begins 9 a.m. and ends noon July 9 at Triangle Park. The event is open to artists ages 6 to adult to show their artistic talent. There is a nominal entrance fee. Registered artists are assigned a block of sidewalk space to create and exhibit their work. Artists are given a small amount of free chalk but it is suggested they bring their own chalk or pastels to enhance their work. Pre-registration is not required but since there is a limited number of sidewalk blocks available, it is suggested participants register early. Also, to expedite on-site registration, it is suggested participants fill out the required forms ahead of time to bring to the event.
Judges will determine the winners and prizes will be awarded for each division at noon. The rain date is July 10. For information, visit www.emmausarts.org.
Another ongoing Emmaus Arts Commission’s project is the rain barrel silent auction. This is the sixth year for this event. Local artists are challenged to paint rain barrels as a way to create unique works of art while offering a functional and environmentally friendly addition to any outdoor space. Bids will be accepted for the barrels July 3 at the Emmaus Farmers Market. The final bids will be accepted at the Chalk the Walk event. There is also a “Buy It and Take It Now” option available. The barrel highest bidder awards will be presented 11 a.m. Proceeds from the sale help fund EAC events and projects.
