Rain doesn’t dampen spirits at indoor church picnic

There was rain for the June 5 church picnic at Heidelberg United Church of Christ.

The ground was soft and boots would have been required even if picknickers brought along umbrellas.

Jack, of the musical group Jack and Friends, said the rain would have spoiled their instruments.

So the decision was made to hold the picnic indoors. Most areas of the church from the narthex to the Sunday School rooms to the sanctuary and fellowship hall were put to use.

Pitstop the Clown brought some of his “pets” along.

The cakewalk in the narthex was crowded but had plenty of people hoping to win a cake.

And when people were tired of moving from place to place, they relaxed and listened to Jack and Friends performing in the sanctuary.

Outside when the rain let up, the Model A car show got three entrants.

Jesse James brought his newest model, a 1930 Model A Roadster. He left a 1929 Model A pickup and 1932 two door sedan at home.

“You can’t have just one,” he said.

He intended getting back into muscle cars after his kids completed college but he saw the Model A’s and changed his collection to those.

He does his own restoration.
