Look for a mermaid at the Lower Macungie Pool summer kickoff party June 26

The Lower Macungie Pool is open noon to 8 p.m. daily. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 16, 20 and 27 and July 18 for swim meets. A summer kickoff party is planned 1 to 5 p.m. June 26 with a DJ from Bar None Entertainment playing tunes 1 to 3 p.m. and a mermaid visit 3 to 5 p.m. There will be a DJ Pool Party with Wesley Works 5 to 7 p.m. July 15. Registration for Lower Macungie Township Pool swim lessons can be made by contacting the Lower Macungie Township Community Center 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Outlaws featuring Crazy Elmer will perform 7 p.m. June 25 at East Texas Park. Pioneer Band will perform 7 p.m. July 9 at East Texas Park. School’s Out Band will perform 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 30 at East Texas Park.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon June 20 and July 18 at the community center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities. Adult fitness classes include chair yoga, yoga, Pilates and Zumba. Children’s programs for summer include acting classes, creative arts theatre camp, mad science camp, princess camp, art camps, Jedi Academy, tennis lessons, nature explorers camp, Minecraft camp, sewing camp, superhero training camp and indoor sports camp. A safe sitter program will be offered June 29.

Some classes are held at the Wescosville Recreation Center, the Hills at Lockridge Community Center and Camp Olympic. For more information, contact the Lower Macungie Community Center at 610-966-6924.

Miller-Keystone Blood Center and Lower Macungie Township will hold a blood drive 4 to 7 p.m. June 28.

Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The center is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show photo I.D. as proof of residency.

The Lower Macungie Township Library is accepting book donations for the fall book sale. Textbooks, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, magazines, outdated medical or travel books or dirty or water damaged books will not be accepted. Sorting of books begins 8:30 to 10 a.m. July 7.

The Friends of the Library will have thenext meeting 10 a.m. Sept. 17.

The library book club will meet 10:30 a.m. July 6 to discuss “Alice” by Stacy Cordery. The book for Aug. 3 is “Art of Hearing Heartbeats” by Jan-Philip Sandler.

There will be a jigsaw puzzle tournament 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 25 for grades two through 12 and adults. Two to four member teams will be assigned a table and puzzle. Prizes will be given for each age division. Teams must pre-register.

There will be a program “Essential Oils 101” 6 p.m. June 28. Megan Koppel and Katie Page will discuss ways to use essential oils and how to make a rollerball oil blend to take home.

The library will present the “Great Decisions” program by the Foreign Policy Association. The 8-week program 6 p.m. Wednesday evenings concludes June 29.

Registration is open for the 2016 Summer Reading Program “On Your Mark, Get Set…Read!” for children from birth through sixth grade. There are also programs for students in grades one and two and grades three to five Tuesdays throughout the summer. Registration can be completed online or at the library. Students entering grades six through 12 can register for “Get in the Game.” There is also a summer reading club for adults. The theme is “Exercise Your Mind. Read!”

Family fun nights are back. The kickoff for 2016 will be the Marvels of Motion presented by Mad Science 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 20. The program is geared to children ages five through 12. Advanced registration is required.

Family game night with special guests Tinkerbell and Captain Hook is scheduled June 27. Family fun night 6:30 p.m. July 11 will feature storyteller Karen Maurer. Family yoga will be held 6:30 p.m. July 18.

Teen Thursdays for grades six through 12 will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Thursdays. June 23 will feature an afternoon of game playing. The meeting June 30 will feature some life hacks to help survive the game of life. The meeting July 7 will feature video games.

There will be a Percy Jackson and the Olympians Party 2 to 3 p.m. July 5 for students entering grades four through eight.

There will be a Science of Sports “Bounce and Roll” program 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. July 5 for students entering grades one through five.

Children’s librarian Miss Lisa will be at the Lower Macungie Pool 2:30 to 4 p.m. July 11 for storytime and a craft station. Pool admission is required for the event.

The library will host its own library Olympics 10:30 a.m. July 16 for students entering grades three to five.

The library will host a series of programs following the theme Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, a project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. Dr. Erika Sutherland from Muhlenberg College will lead a discussion on Many Roads to Here: Immigration Law and Our Immigrant Nation 6 p.m. June 23.

There will be a car wash at Concordia Lutheran Church, 2623 Brookside Road, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 18. A freewill offering will benefit the Latvian Mission Team who will be volunteering at an ESL camp in Riga this summer.
