FLAG DAY

The Great Allentown Band will perform a free concert organized by the Allentown Flag Day Association 7 p.m. June 14 in Allentown’s West Park at 16th and Turner streets.

A free will offering will be taken to benefit the Allentown Flag Day Association, the oldest incorporated Flag Day association in the United States.

Conductor Ron Demkee will lead the band in a patriotic performance culminating with the “Armed Forces Salute” where veterans will receive applause. Soprano soloist Evelyn Stewart will perform “This is My Country” and “God Bless America” among other songs.

The Honorable Judge Edward D. Reibman will deliver the Flag Day message. Reibman served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1969 to 1975.

The three winners of the association’s annual essay contest held in all Allentown Middle Schools will present their essays.

The rain site for the concert is William Allen High School’s auditorium.
