Scenic Blue Mountain views enhance Class of 2016 prom

Northwestern Lehigh High School’s Class of 2016 took to the mountains for prom this year.

A first for the school, the prom took place May 29 at Blue Mountain Resort, a bit of a drive, but according to all in attendance, more than worth it.

Against a beautiful backdrop on a sunny spring day, the soon-to-be graduates celebrated their friendships made and achievements earned during their years at Northwestern.

The couples had their picture taken outdoors before entering the ballroom.

The ambiance was alike dining alfresco, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a balcony offering a tremendous view.

The meal included hors d’oeuvres, and then fettucine Alfredo, chicken parmesan and beef burgundy.

When dinner ended, the prom-goers took to the dance floor.

According to the class officers, there was not much need to worry about decorations this year as the setting at Blue Mountain Resort offered an elegance all its own.

Balloon cascades, however, adorned the entrance way, and black-and-yellow wrapped candies surrounding a candle adorned the tables.

“Anything we could try to do would only take away,” said Emma Conrey, class treasurer.

Each senior received a black mug decorated with a Northwestern Tiger paw print and the words, “Class of 2016” printed in yellow, to add a touch of school spirit.

Class advisor Steph Dunbar said 198 tickets were sold to the prom and the Class of 2017 has already booked the resort for next year.

“It’s really cool,” said senior Elizabeth Walters, as she took a break from dancing to step onto the balcony, a popular spot throughout the evening.

Many students, including senior Eddie Parrish and his date Jessie Willamson, took selfies there with the panoramic view as their backdrop.

“It’s just beautiful here,” said Jessie and Eddie looking out over what was just a few months earlier a mountain full of snow.

Class President Quentin Bernhard thanked his classmates and fellow class officers.

“It [prom] wouldn’t be what it is without them,” Bernhard said.
