Stagemakers to present ‘Legally Blonde’ at the JCC

Stagemakers Youth Theater students will perform “Legally Blonde, The Musical Jr.,” May 19 and 22 at the Jewish Community Center of the Lehigh Valley, Allentown.

The musical tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who struggles to win back her boyfriend Warner Huntington III by entering Harvard Law School, where he attends.

“Legally Blonde, The Musical” is based on the music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and libretto by Heather Hach.

The story is based on the novel, “Legally Blonde,” by Amanda Brown.

Natalie Trachtman and Yoshanna Mizrachi, both of Allentown, commented on their roles as Elle Woods and Paulette Bonafonté, respectively.

Trachtman said Elle is a high energy girl who is very focused on her goals.

‘She is underestimated by a lot of people she meets but she proves them wrong and she does it in pink,” Tractman said. “I like that Elle is very bold and is never afraid to go after what she wants.”

Mizrachi said Paulette is a pretty complex character.

“Her former husband Dewey dumped her, took her trailer, and her dog, the light of her life, Rufus,” she said. “All she has left at this point is styling hair and giving advice.”

“After meeting Elle, Paulette does everything she can to prevent her from changing herself for a guy, and gives her some extra confidence to boot.”

Mizrachi said karma catches up to Paulette and things start getting better for her.

“Elle helps her get Rufus back. She meets Kyle, the UPS guy and love-of-her-life, and even helps Elle win her first court case,” she said.

“Paulette reminds me of the moon. Although she doesn’t necessarily give off light, she’s great at reflecting it.”

Mizrachi said she likes playing Paulette because it is always fun to have crazy hair and costumes.

“Her songs are so great to sing, and some of her lines are really funny,” she said. “I’ve loved ‘Legally Blonde. The Musical’ forever, and I’m so blessed to be playing one of my favorite characters and being part of sharing this amazing story.

“I love this show and this cast. I’m so happy to be surrounded by some of the nicest, funniest people ever, and knowing we’re all in one giant theatre family makes it even better.”

The show is directed by Nicole Anderson, and choreographed by Cheryl Moritz. Music direction is by Nick Conti, costumes by Mary Siler and set construction by Dirk Leisher.

Anderson said “Legally Blonde” is a great choice for this age group.

“It is all about being who you are and never giving up on what you want,” she said. “‘Legally Blonde, The Musical Jr.,’ is a fabulously fun journey of self-empowerment and expanding horizons.

“The show is instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit and sass-leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink.

“Elle along with her puppy pal Bruiser, takes us on her journey.”
