U.S Attorney Zane David Memeger has announced George William Schantz, 42, of Lynn Township, was charged May 12 by indictment with the enticement of a minor.
If convicted Schantz faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison with a maximum possible sentence of life, up to a lifetime of supervised release, a possible fine, a $100 special assessment, and a $5,000 additional special assessment.
The case was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Schantz is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Sherri A. Stephan.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice.
Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
