Volunteers upgrade Kempton Community Center

Volunteers have been busy every Saturday at the Kempton Community Center painting, cleaning, fixing the dugout at the ballfield, and even installing a boat at the children’s playground.

Much of this work is in preparation for the second annual Shindig noon-9 p.m. May 21.

The Shindig will feature country music, hay wagon rides, games, petting zoo, good food and more.

There will also be music provided by Generation Gap and the Hannah Violet Trio.

“Admission is free, and tasty food and baked goods will be available for purchase,” event coordinator Kay Brendlinger said.

Middle-Earth Studios of Stony Run will present its fantasy theater.

In addition, there will be a rescue demonstration by Kempton Fire Company volunteers.

Drawings for the Shop-Local raffle, with $3,000 in prizes, will be held near the end of the evening.

Proceeds of the raffle will be used to improve and expand recreation facilities at the community center.

Raffle tickets may be purchased from local merchants and at the event.

Along with gift cards from local merchants, there will be a $1,000, a $500, a $250 and seven $100 cash prizes.

Ticket holders need not be present to win.
