LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Austreibungs Fest celebrated at later date this year Purpose is to chase away winter

The annual Winter Vanquish Festival at the Germansville Fire Station social hall featured an afternoon of eating, drinking, dancing and singing.

Walt Groller brought his special brand of music for singing and dancing at the April 17 festival. The event is sponsored by the Pastorius Home Association which was formed to enhance cultural connections with Germany.

Dinner was highlighted with Karl Ehmer wursts and bottomless beverages were featured treats at the dinner.

Numerous door prizes were awarded.

Marian Snyder, who can usually be found at the front desk, said she has been “coming forever” to the celebration.

Club President Paul Semmel welcomed the dancers and said dinner would be at 4 p.m.

“Take it away Maestro,” he said to Groller.

Lee Schleicher may have been the most energetic person there though he was married for 62 years which makes him 80 or more.

Schleicher demonstrated an active dance he and a friend did in Germany at the request of Groller who saw him there.

He also sang along with the songs, especially “Edelweiss.”

“Sweet Caroline” was a request that many in the audience took part in.

Groller said his son, Joe, has taken over the popular ballroom Sunnybrook.

There was a box of books printed in German that were free for the taking.

Chosen as Ms. and Mr. Festival were Trudi Tannery and Ed Bachinsky. They each received a German apron as a gift.

Lissy Weirich is suitably dressed for the event as she dances with Doug Weirich.
