ACCHS holds freshman orientation

Freshman orientation took place May 3 at Allentown Central Catholic High School. Members of the incoming freshman class of 2020 had the opportunity to meet current faculty, administrators and students. Representatives from clubs and sports teams talked with the upcoming freshman at stations set up in Rockne Hall.

To end the evening, the class of 2020 bonded with each other and current Central students by playing a game and singing the alma mater.

On May 5, Bishop John O. Barres celebrated Ascension Thursday Mass for the student body. Seventh grade feeder school students from St. Ann, St. Thomas More and Sacred Heart attended the Mass as well, getting their first taste of what it’s like to be a Viking.

Spring sports awards followed the Mass, recognizing student athletes who play lacrosse, baseball, softball, boys tennis and track and field.

A special MVP award for the entire school year was given posthumously to cheerleader Alayna Velez. Seniors Hope Heffner and Chris Vaughn were honored with the Rosemary Duffy McFadden Female Athlete of the Year and George Kinek Male Athlete of the Year awards, respectively, presented to outstanding senior athletes in recognition of their ACCHS careers.

Central Catholic’s junior and senior prom is 5 to 10 p.m. May 13 at DeSales University. Doors open 4:45 p.m. and no student may leave prom early without prior parental written permission.
