IMPACT Film Festival creates balance of design, communication and academics
A team of media students at Salisbury High School planned, developed and implemented the second annual IMPACT Film Festival held April 23 at the high school.
The goal of the event is to gain real-world experience by hosting the festival, developed through discussion on the skills necessary for success in a global market. The students believe media arts creates “a strong balance between the element of design, the process of communication and the role of academics.”
Event staff included Taylor Vasilik, festival producer; Peter Dubois, festival producer; Casey Laudadio, festival producer; Adam Miller, festival co-producer; Dane Galbraith, Weebly site design; Cameron Vaka, WordPress site design; Joseph Busolits, events manager; Bryce Kimmey, festival acquisitions; Jaden Ziner, festival finance manager; Shawn O’Boyle, visual and digital design; Erwin Ferrer, festival operations coordinator; Ryan Moyer, festival operations coordinator; Jonathan Roth, research and development; Jeremias Panariello, research and development and Kelly Wetherhold, advisor.
Announcer for the festival was Casey Weidenhammer.
The theme this year was “It’s a Mystery.”
The entries this year included:
•Quakertown High School: Chad Coleman and Dalton Frederick who produced the film “Who is My Prom Date?”
•Reading High School: Juan Tavarez “Haunted Locker”
•Salisbury High School: Zach Pavlovich “Endless Quiet”
•Salisbury High School: Dane Galbraith and Olivia King “Ruby”
•Whitehall High School: Reynaldo Aquino “Incognita”
•Salisbury High School: Kevin Esslinger “iHaunt Caity’s Phone”
•Salisbury High School: Adam Miller, Shawn O’Boyle, Luis Palacios and Josh Jordan “Warehouse Worries”
Other films featured included short films developed by Brendan Diaz “Hall Pass” and one developed by the media management II students.
Sponsors this year were: Platinum: FireRock Productions, O’Boyle Plumbing, RCN; Silver: Applied Video Technologies (Phoenixville) and Bronze: DaVinci Center.
All films were judged by FireRock Productions.
After viewing all films, the winners were announced: third place, “Incognita” by Whitehall High School; second place, “iHaunt Caity’s Phone” by Salisbury High School and first place, “Ruby” by Salisbury High School.
The IMPACT Film Festival 2017 will again be held at SHS; a date has yet to be determined. Students from all Lehigh Valley schools are encouraged to participate and have until April 15, 2017 to create a film with a mystery genre. All interested filmmakers should email impactff@gmail.com.
