George S. Gruber
George S. Gruber, 92, of Orefield, died May 1, 2016, at home.
He was the widower of Elsie M. (Snyder) Gruber.
Born in Germansville, he was a son of the late Robert and Iva (Snyder) Gruber.
A farmer in Weisenberg and Lowhill townships for 75 years, he also farmed many of his neighbor’s properties as well as his own.
In addition, he was a successful dairy farmer for many years.
A skilled butcher whose knowledge was passed down to him, he continued the tradition with his family.
He was also a skilled welder and excelled in many other trades.
He was a member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church, New Tripoli.
His survivors include sons Clarence G. and wife, Susan, of Allentown, Allen C. and wife, Ruth, of Slatington, Roy R. and wife, Linda, of Auburn, Dale R. and wife, Cheryl,of New Tripoli, and Marvin L. and wife, Karen, of New Tripoli; daughter, Shirley E., wife of Harry Sohon, of Shoemakersville; brother Ralph of Fogelsville; son-in-law Paul Bauscher; brother-in-law Raymond Dengler; sisters-in-law Ruth and Betty Snyder; 16 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Carolyn E. Bauscher, grandson Andrew G. Gruber, two brothers and three sisters.
His services will be 11 a.m. May 5 at Weisenberg Lutheran Church, 7645 Weisenberg Church Road, New Tripoli, with the Rev. Raymond J. Hand officiating.
Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
