Derek McCartney, of Catasauqua, was recently inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society at Delaware Valley University during the spring 2016 semester. Alpha Lambda Delta encourages superior scholastic achievement among first-year students. The honor society promotes intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning. Members are encouraged to recognize and develop meaningful goals for their unique roles in society. To be inducted, students must have a GPA of 3.5 or better during their first full-time year.

Tasha Harwick, of Whitehall, was recently inducted into Gamma Sigma Alpha National Honor Society at Kutztown University.

Gamma Sigma Alpha is for students who are members of a social Greek organization and have at least a 3.5 GPA in their junior or senior year. Gamma Sigma Alpha was founded at University of Southern California on Nov. 9, 1989, by a group of scholastic achievers representing various fraternities and sororities dedicated to the advancement of higher education and academic accomplishment. Led by Beth K. Saul, the university’s visionary sorority adviser, a national board was established the following year to promote the organization’s ideals on campuses across the country.

Gamma Sigma Alpha quickly grew to more than 190 chapters in a little more than a decade. Today, this honor society has more than 215 chapters and recognizes nearly 2,000 members of fraternities and sororities each year.

Founded in 1866, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania is a member of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, located on 289 acres nestled in the East Penn Valley in Berks County, between Reading and Allentown.
