To the Editor,

In America, students are currently considering many different career paths at this point in their school life. Although I have many interests, I would like to pursue a career in criminology in the future.

Criminology is a specific area of sociology that concentrates on the social impact and effect of crimes– why they were committed and how to prevent future crimes from taking place.

I know I should be a criminologist because I love investigating and I have an interest in criminal justice.

According to an article from “Criminal Justice USA,” people with a degree in criminology can also get a job at federal or state government agencies or with local law enforcement.

My dream is to attend University of Pennsylvania because they have one of the best criminology programs in the world.

My parents say a criminologist career could be dangerous because of the fact I would be working around dangerous criminals, My dad claims, “There may be long-term effects on your psychological health by working around crime.”

Despite what my parents say, I would still like to pursue a career in this field because I have always been fascinated by criminal justice and solving crimes. The experience of being able to protect people by keeping dangerous criminals away from the public would be very rewarding!

Even though there are many different options for future career paths, I am currently pursuing a career in criminology at this point in my life.
