Brake retarder usage prohibited on Route 100
A letter was read from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation regarding brake retarder usage on Route 100 at the April 21 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting. The request for brake retarder prohibition had been made before. It is now official that brake retarders are not to be used along Route 100 in Lower Macungie Township. Signs will be posted as soon as possible. Atty. Richard Somach, solicitor, will prepare an ordinance.
Emergency Management Coordinator Dale Frizzell has resigned and Barb Ferri was appointed to the position.
A representative from Woodmont Properties, the apartment complex being developed near Allen Organ, has written a letter to the township to request a quiet zone near their development. Norfolk Southern trains run along the rear of the development. To have the train warning silenced, a suitable replacement must be made which can be quite costly. The commissioners said other developments have dealt with the noise. If it is a problem, it will be up to the developer to absorb the cost.
Julie McDonell expressed her concern over the cost of a memorial tree at a township park. This memorial is in memory of Dennis Timmer who was a member of the parks and recreation board. The commissioners said the township will assume the cost of tree and memorial.
The dog park project is checking out new locations.
The riparian project will plant more trees and plants along Spring Creek. Approximately 125 different trees and plants the tree be planted with the assistance from the township.
The Lower Macungie Township Library is requesting an anniversary tree. This was approved and will be planted on Arbor Day, April 29. A celebration will be held at a later date.
The township is planting its annual tree on Arbor Day. This is in addition to the tree at the library.
The annual community day event is scheduled for May 3. This event is held in the municipal complex near the library and township building. A shredding event will be held in the same area May 7.
The Wescosville Park lights were approved. A variance was made because the poles are 60 feet which is more than what the ordinance allows. It was suggested the ordinance be changed for the future.
There will be four light poles installed. The lighting will not be a problem as it is halogen lights and they light up an immediate area and do not spread out into other areas.
The Wescosville walkway from Brookside Road to Hamilton Boulevard is almost complete. The walkway at Church Lane Park was tabled.
