State Representative 131st District

Two candidates are on the Republican ballot for State Representative in the 131st District in the April 26 primary election: Bill Coyle and Incumbent Justin J. Simmons. There are no Democratic candidates on the ballot. Voters are asked to select one candidate.

The Press asked both candidates the question, “What do you see as the primary concern of your constituents?” The candidates’ answers are listed below.

Bill Coyle

“My family chose to live in this area because it is a wonderful place to raise a family. We love the schools our children attend, the variety of activities of the region, the farmlands, the family businesses, great restaurants and most importantly, the friends we have made in our decades here. If elected, my primary concern for this district is to not only lower expenses and taxes, but to work with our businesses, local officials, school districts, Chambers of Commerce and charities to continue the work of improving the quality of life for all who call the 131st district home.”

Justin J. Simmons

“Throughout the debate over the Governor’s massive tax-and-spend proposal, the people of the 131st made it clear their top concern is controlling taxes and spending. I am proud to have represented my constituents by stopping the Governor’s tax increase, though this effort is not over as he is once again proposing more taxes and spending, including a retroactive income tax increase. In addition, residents are concerned about property taxes. That is why I have always supported school property tax elimination, as well as public pension reform, mandate relief, and other actions that will help control local property taxes.”
