A Salisbury Township police officer will be on duty outside the township municipal building to help with traffic flow for an expected big voter turnout in the April 26 Primary Election.

“They’re anticipating quite a turnout this year for the primary and general election,” township Commissioner Debra Brinton said at the April 14 board of commissioners’ meeting.

“That’s the anticipation from voter registration,” Brinton said. A 70 to 75 percent voter turnout is predicted.

According to the Pew Research Center, 2016 primary voting is expected to reach its highest percentages for Republican and Democratic voters since the 1980s and 1990s, comparable to the record 2008 turnout.

Township Commissioner Joanne Ackerman said she also heard a big voter turnout is expected.

“I’m wondering if we have a police officer to direct traffic,” Brinton said.

Brinton said she is concerned about vehicles exiting the municipal building parking lot, especially those attempting left turns.

“We’ll have an additional officer working that day,” Salisbury Township Chief of Police Allen W. Stiles assured commissioners.

The township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave., is the polling place for the 3rd Ward, 2nd District.

There is a limited number of spaces in front of the municipal building.

Polling places in Pennsylvania are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Salisbury 4th Ward, 2nd District: Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church, 1151 Cedar Crest Blvd.

Salisbury 5th Ward, 1st District: The Swain School, 1100 S. 24th St.

Salisbury 5th Ward, 2nd District: Hope United Church of Christ, 1031 Flexer Ave.
